One common thing that babies seem to do is open and close their hands, babies don’t do things for no reason so figuring out why your baby does this may be of help to you
Here is why your baby may be opening and closing his hands:
Understanding their body:
The world is a new and interesting place for newborn babies, they are learning about the world as they age.
Not only this, babies are also learning about their own bodies as they age, and opening and closing their hands is one way that your baby will learn about their bodies, namely their hands
Once your child learns that their hands are a part of them the child will explore their hands at will opening and closing them and doing all kinds of other stuff with them.
What to do:
This is perfectly normal behavior and isn’t something to worry about, but if you are worried about your child you can take your baby to the pediatrician to make sure that all is well with your child.
You don’t have to worry if you’ve never seen your older children express this behavior, the behavior is common but not all children will clench and unclench their fists or open and close their hands.
Excitement:
Another reason why your baby may be opening and closing their hands may be that the child is excited, this action means that the baby is having fun.
Other things that your child will do if they are excited include flapping, twirling, or shaking their hands in addition to the opening and closing of their heads, all these actions are the child’s way of communicating that they are having fun.
What to do:
You don’t have to do anything if you see this happening, it’s perfectly normal and can be quite adorable. Your baby will likely outgrow this behavior at around 12-18 months, and it is nothing to worry about
